You’ve heard it all before, right? Everyone’s slamming your inbox with their links…telling you all about how their company is the latest, greatest thing…totally ground floor. They’re using nothing but the finest vegan, organic ingredients sourced from the canopy of the rainforest….and on and on and on it goes. Am I right? It’s enough to make you go crazy, lol! What can you do?

I can’t even count how many messages I’ve received from people announcing energetically, that their product is just about to launch in my country! Followed by a kind warning that I’d be smart to get ahead of it…and that it absolutely, positively, MOST DEFINITELY won’t interfere with what I’m currently doing. Right…
Before I get in to sharing what to say to these people, it’s really important to have a quick chat about the energy you’re bringing to the conversation, in the first place.
If you are in the network marketing or online marketing space, presumably, you want to make sales. Why else would you be actively engaging in social media recruiting? Additionally, it would be safe to assume that you also, wan’t to attract business builders. Would that be right?
SOCIAL MEDIA RECRUITING: DON’T BE MAD AT THE PITCHERS
So, having said that, you should be very careful not to malign others who are attempting to do the same thing. Don’t be angry at other marketers for prospecting you, if you are also looking to prospect others. If you harbour resentment against those trying to sell you something, you, in turn, will not attract buyers. You will never attract that which you despise. Be very careful of the energy you’re putting out there. Effectively, it’s the law of attraction, in action.
Do your utmost, to be kind and understand that they are doing their best. I know that so many marketers are doing it all wrong. Most, I’d argue..are doing it wrong. They’re super pitchy…throwing their links around…I get it…it’s very annoying. But remember, they may not be getting the good social media recruiting advice and solid training, that you are. Let’s applaud them for taking action.

Great..now that we’ve got that covered…and our attitudes are in check…
I realize that your purpose when social media recruiting, is to sort for quality people. Understandably, it can be tough to know how to navigate through the sea of pitches to find the real gems. You want to let these people down easy and move on…but they’re not always picking up on what you’re laying down, right lol?!!?
The key to doing this successfully is to know, ahead of time, what objections they are going to counter with, as soon as you say that you are not interested in their business. If you are able to pre-emptively address their objections in your initial response, you’ll save a lot of time and energy with the useless back-and-forth that typically ensues.

THE OBJECTIONS YOU’LL LIKELY GET
So, what do they usually fire back at you, when you say you’re not interested? Think about it. Here are some common ones.
1- better compensation plan
2- supreme leaders, millionaire mentors
3- company is the best on earth…saves babies, pets kittens yada yada…
There are many but these are common.
SCRIPT
Here’s what to actually say to these people:
“Hey John, thank you so much for considering me. I really appreciate you sharing with me, what you’re up to. Here’s the thing…I am super focused on a goal that I have with my company. I’ve got my head down. I’ve got my blinders on and I’m running hard for a promotion. I am not even making time to even look at anything else. I love my leadership. I’m super happy with my compensation plan and love where my company is headed. Thanks again, and have a fantastic day.”

WHAT’S IT ALL MEAN?
Now, let’s dissect why this is so effective, shall we….
Firstly, you are immediately setting the tone by being kind and appreciative. It never does any good to berate someone cause you’re annoyed or don’t like their tactics. That tends to put people on the defensive which can make them argumentative and weird. Not good…so stay nice!
Secondly, you are letting them know that you are focused on a goal. You are professional, dedicated and clearly not someone who is lost and in need of another person’s opportunity. In addition to that, you’ve made it clear that you are hyper-focused and not open to looking at anything else at all. That’s pretty direct and does not leave a lot of room for misinterpretation lol.
Thirdly, you’ve mentioned that you love your leadership, so they cannot counter that their leaders are better.
Lastly, you made a comment about loving where your company is headed, meaning that you still have room for growth. So you’ve hit on al the hot buttons that someone might counter with, in a very succinct and timely manner.

WORKS LIKE A CHARM!
Typically, this will work like a charm. Occasionally, however, you’ll get a social media recruiter who is quite aggressive and working their scripts like their lives depend on it. They’ll just keep coming back at ya’ with rebuttals, even if they don’t make sense! Sometimes, you’ll find that you have to be more firm with them or as a last resort, ignore them altogether. I prefer not to do that, but once in a while, it’s called for.
This method is really very simple and effective. Ray Higdon shared a similar strategy in his Rank Makers group recently and I find it works really well. It sure beats some of the more questionable tactics I’ve heard of people using, to deal with irritating social media recruiters….like, placing a ‘don’t prospect me’ banner on your profile pic. …NOT recommended lol.
