Do you feel like you need a book called Network Marketing for Dummies? I know, I sure did when I first started out. Sometimes it’s tough to know whose advice to follow. Am I right? For example, are you being told by your upline that you need to do 3-way calls to be successful in your business? It’s a super common tool that most network marketing companies implement…BUT…is it really necessary? I’m going to share my perspective with you below and I’m sure it’s NOT what you’re expecting!

In truth, there are a number of reasons why 3-way calls make a whole lot of good sense. I know…you may have been hoping that I was going to totally let you off the hook here….so don’t throw tomatoes at me! They DO make sense BUT there’s more to the story than meets the eye. To begin with, let’s have a wee look at why I think 3-way calls are so effective.

HERE’S THE THING ABOUT 3-WAY CALLS…

3-way calls offer a new rep the ability to totally lean on the expertise of their upline, to help them close people into the business. When you’re new, it can be really overwhelming to try to field all of your prospects questions. Until you know the lay of the land, it makes a lot of sense to defer to the people in your organization, who have the experience and success, you don’t yet have. Ultimately, all YOU have to do is find people who are open to looking at your business and your upline handles the rest. That’s a pretty good deal, right there.

…3-way calls offer the much-needed 3rd party validation. You kind of can’t be a prophet in your own land, right? It’s an odd thing but it’s human nature. People want to see that ‘others’ outside of you and them, agree with what you are saying about your product, service or opportunity. It’s social proof and it’s critical to closing sales and recruiting reps.

For these reasons, in particular, I DO believe that you should be using 3-way calls in your business. HOWEVER, there IS another side to this story, that needs to be considered. Because in truth, there are multiple reasons why 3-way calls suck HARD too, lol!

WHY 3-WAY CALLS SUCK!


For one, they can be a little tricky to orchestrate. You have to actually find a time when all the parties involved can show up to be on the call, at the same time. …not always easy! Ideally, you would schedule a time…but then it makes the call seem overly formal and fussy to the prospect..who may then feel uncomfortable with the whole darned thing.

The next thing to consider, is the actually technology. Dude…that stuff can be sooo glitchy…know what I mean?!!? I have accidentally hung up on my fair share of prospects..trying to add them to a call (eye roll!) That does NOT look good lol! Technology can be a bit overwhelming, especially to someone who is new to the whole thing.

And finally, It’s been my experience, that prospects often find the process unsavoury. As soon as you mention bringing a third person into the equation, it often raises resistance in the prospect. Ever deal with that? Though they can be super powerful and informative, when everything goes well, there are a lot of moving parts that make the margin of error and frustration too great! Truly, a 3-way call has a ‘business-y’ and formal edge to it that takes an otherwise chill situation and pushes it up a notch. 

THAT’S  why I am not a big fan!

OH..AND ANOTHER THING….


Consider, that most people don’t even talk on the phone anymore, anyway. As such, the traditional 3-way call is kind of antiquated and no longer seems seamless. 

So…here’s the deal: you need all of the positives of the 3-way call and NONE of the negatives! How do you do that? Simple…with FACEBOOK MESSENGER!!! Did your head just explode???

I recently joined forces with a network marketing company that has amazing leadership. They’ve got such a highly leveraged and dialed-in system, that things are duplicating like wildfire AND they NEVER do 3-way calls! In our team, we use 3-way Messenger chats in place of traditional 3-way calls and they work SO MUCH BETTER!

1- BECAUSE EVERYONE IS ALREADY ON IT

 There is no real learning curve for people…even when they are new…because just about everyone you’re going to encounter, is already using Facebook Messenger.

2- THERE ARE NO ADDED FEES

You just need the messenger app and you’re good to go. You don’t have to contend with the added fees of having the conference call option added to your phone package…not to mention the added long-distance fees for the calls themselves. Nor does it even matter where in the world your prospect or upline is. Because it’s a messenger chat, you don’t actually have to schedule a time. You simply create the chat and throw people in it. Facebook will send all parties a notification that they’ve been tagged in the chat and they’ll all turn up when it makes sense for THEM. Easy… no fuss..no muss.

3- YOU CAN SHARE FILES/PICS

Because you are inside of the Messenger app, you have the ability to add links to files, share soundbites, pictures, and any number of other things, with your prospects. You can’t do that on a telephone call. This system is seamless.

4- YOU CREATE A PERMANENT LOG

The Messenger conversation creates a permanent log that your prospect and rep can revisit whenever they want. It’s a tremendously good learning tool for new people. In addition, it eliminates the problem that can arise when a prospect wants to share what they’re hearing, with their spouse, for example. In traditional 3-way calls, we all know how quickly THAT game of telephone can end up going sour. Am I right? With the Messenger chat, they don’t have to worry about trying to remember everything, because they can literally just show or play the conversation for their spouse…and voila..duplication!

5- YOU CAN ADD AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU LIKE

You are actually not limited to only 3 people. Instead, you can add as many as you like to facilitate helping the prospect in the best way possible. Say, for example, you were chatting with a single mom, who wanted to hear from other single moms who were making the business work for them. You may decide to bring in several people to the conversation, to create that social proof AND build the relationship at the same time.

6- THIS IS VERY DUPLICATABLE

Because the 3-way Messenger chat is so simple to execute, it’s really easy to create massive duplication. This method causes no headaches and no resistance.

7- YOU CAN HAVE MULTIPLE CHATS HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME

Each chat is it’s own little world and you can have multiple chats on the go at once. As a leader, this creates SO MUCH leverage. It will save you tons of time on the phone.

 

So yes…3-way ‘conversations’ are a super effective tool to use in your business but it most certainly does NOT need to take place on the telephone. And in fact, as I’ve shown you, the Messenger Chat Method, is vastly superior in pretty much every way.
