PROSPECTING TIPS: Where Are the Good Peeps at?

 

In truth, when it comes to prospecting ideas, there really are no limits. Everywhere you look…there are people. it’s pretty tough to run out. However, when people come online, they often find it intimidating, figuring out how to locate good prospects, in the vast sea of people on social media. 

With that in mind, here are some great prospecting tips, including 3 of my most favourite places to find super hot prospects online. Hope you like them.

1) Influencers’ Fan Pages:

I love going to other influencers’ fan pages to check out who’s hanging out there. The people who are engaging on that page, are clearly interested in the same topic as you are and thus, they are doing a lot of the pre-sorting for you. You don’t have to guess as to whether or not they are open to the topic, as they’re already, clearly, knee-deep in it.

Here’s a ninja prospecting tip to help you with these people. Scroll through the posts on the influencer’s page and find one that has a fair bit of recent engagement. Check out some of the comments and see if there are any really good ones, that resonate with you. If so, make the effort to pull up the profile of the person who commented, and check it out. Find some common ground, then message them. Let them know where you saw their comment and how much you appreciate their insights. Focus on building the relationship and creating that rapport. Simply see where that leads…no pressure..no pitch.

 

2) Non-Industry Specific Facebook Groups

For the most part, marketers focus on industry-specific groups. We call those ‘Spam Groups; for a reason. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people within these groups simply commit the ‘drive-by’ post. …just pulling through, slapping down their links and then taking off. They are totally NOT interested in anything other than pushing their businesses. As a result, it can be super tough to find good quality prospects here.

This is why I choose to focus on groups that are NOT industry specific. This is a prospecting tip that I like to call a ‘second tier search’ What this means, is that you need to search in slightly less obvious places to find the quality people. Give some serious thought as to who your target market really is. Consider what those people enjoy doing, watching, reading and more. What are their hobbies? What other kind of groups might they belong to. Go THERE. Hang out in groups that cater to specific likes and build relationships based on common ground. Avoid pitching your business too quickly. Focus on the relationship and building your network. It’s a brilliant way to meet quality people with common interests who might also be open to your product, service or opportunity.

3) LinkedIn

LinkedIn, though decidedly unsexy, is a great platform for meeting potential prospects. They understand what it means to do business online and they are absolutely NOT shocked when people talk business. You are able to spend less time on the niceties and get right to the point. In addition to this, LinkedIn has fairly advanced search functions, which makes finding the people you are looking for…much, much, easier.
