Do you really need to go to your company events to be successful? Promoting company events is one of the most important and coveted aspects of network marketing. So much so, that attending them is presented as being the holy grail of success within the industry. BUT is that true? Will you fail if you don’t go?

COMPANY EVENTS…YAY OR NAY?

I can certainly understand why one would ask those questions. I mean…let’s face it…company events can be very expensive, once you factor in flights, hotel rooms and food…to say nothing of the cost of the ticket, itself. Additionally, many people have to take time off work and arrange childcare while they’re away. So, attending those company events is not nothing. It can require a lot of resources to make it work. 

I get it. It’s tough, especially when there is often a lot of guilt and shaming involved, for those who choose not to go. Some company leaders will even go so far as to refuse to work with reps who do not attend the company events and all but ignore that they’re alive. I know..it’s a bit much, but some people get very passionate about this issue lol!

COMPANY EVENTS: You Should Go If….

 

To answer the question ‘Do you really need to go to your company events to be successful?’…I would first need to know what your definition of success is. Everyone has a completely different opinion of success and their goals will vary as well. 

If you are simply looking to get your products for free or perhaps, make a couple hundred extra bucks a month, to pay down some debt, then NO…you don’t really NEED to go. Should you? Sure..absolutely. Company events are wonderful learning experiences and they are super fun. Why deny yourself that opportunity? Having said that though, you do not need to go to achieve your goals and your measure of success.

Now, if, on the other hand, you are more like I am and you want to be at the very top levels of your company’s pay structure, then the answer will vary. Should you go to your company events? … Yes. Do you NEED to go to be a top earner? The answer is a resounding YES….and no, lol!

COMPANY EVENTS: Here’s the Deal…

Your company events are critically important to your success in your business, if you desire to be a top earner. However, they are not the ONLY game in town. There are other fantastic events to consider, as well.

I KNOW… your company leadership may want you to ONLY focus on their events. In a way, I understand it. They want to ensure that the training is consistent and duplicatable across the board and it becomes tough to do that if their reps are getting training all over the place. I get it…it’s what works best overall and for the lowest common denominator. It produces results, also. As such, I’ll never disparage company events. I LOVE my company events…a lot!

ON THE FLIP SIDE….

On the flip side, sticking solely to your company events is not necessarily what is best for YOU. Depending on how you choose to build your business, there may be other events out there that will give you more targeted training, designed specifically for how you are building. 

Let’s look at WHY you SHOULD be attending company events and other events, in the first place. There are a multitude of great reasons but I’m going to share my 7 favourite ones. Here we go….

7 VERY GOOD REASONS WHY…

1- SKILLS

Your company events will provide you with the EXACT skills and strategies needed to be effective in your particular company. As I mentioned earlier, if you want to be at the top levels of the pay structure, you WILL need those skills…so go to the events. 

2- BELIEF AND VISION CASTING

Earlier in my career, I really didn’t pay close enough attention to the importance of belief and vision to my success. I kind of thought they were all ‘she-she poo-poo’, tree-hugging notions… but nothing could be further from the truth. 

Without having a solid, un-messable belief in yourself, your product, your company and the industry, it will never work. If you don’t have a crystal clear vision of what you want to accomplish, where you want to be and who you want to become…you’ll never make it. Events are brilliant at solidifying your belief because the energy in those arenas is electric. All those people, inspired and grateful, sharing the experience together…is amazing!

The truth is, there are really tough days in this business. If you are working hard enough you are going to want to quit about a thousand times. I promise lol! So, if you are not totally solid in your belief and your vision…you will falter.

3- PERSONAL GROWTH

Our industry is really all about becoming more. In order for us to be super successful we have to impact a lot of lives by default. We can’t climb the ladder without taking a lot of people with us. This fact requires that we become leaders focused on helping others and events are pivotal in helping us, in that regard.

 

4- COMMUNITY

I would argue that community is even more important that strategy. Having a community to support you, provides you with a sense of belonging and purpose. Additionally, you have people to hold you accountable.

5- INSPIRATION

Events help us to see what is possible for us. We get to see normal, every-day people sharing their story of trial and triumph and it is really inspiring. The recognitions portion of your company events is particularly powerful as you can leverage those same stories when talking to your prospects.

 

6- FUN

There are just too many people in network marketing and online marketing who are not having any fun. Events are FUN…go and have some dang fun..ok?

 

7- NETWORKING

Networking is THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of going to events, bar none! No matter how many courses you buy, webinars you watch or ebooks you read, you’ll never actually have a chance to hob-nob with the leaders who can truly pour into you. 

It’s the event AFTER the event that is truly where the magic lies. The conversations that take place, casually, when the training lets out for lunch or at the end of the day…thats where the real gold lies. When people are just chillin’ around the bar at night, having a beer…those chats are full of endless wisdom. 

You see… the ‘in-between’ moments are so important to your growth. Ultimately, the relationships you make at these events, could potentially open doors that you have not yet even considered. When you show up in person, you are treated as a peer…not as a fan or a follower. THAT will do more for you and your business than any course or podcast ever could.

FINAL WORDS….

In closing… do you need to go to your company events to be successful? Yes, if being a top leader is important you. BUT it doesn’t stop there. Make sure to attend events that cater specifically to how you intend to build your business. 

Why? Because, in actuality, most network marketing companies do not know much about effective online marketing. In fact, many will not even support it. I know…seems nuts in this day and age…but it is true. So, effectively, in most cases, you will not be able to learn the online skills you’ll need if you solely attend your company events.

Find other conferences that come highly recommended by online leaders you trust. Ideally, choose events that resonate with you, both in terms of personal development and skills set. If you do that, don’t ever quit and take the right consistent action….you cannot fail.
