BECOMING A PERSON OF INFLUENCE

People need to see you as a person on the move. They want to follow someone who is going somewhere and is fully confident in that fact. Gaining online authority and becoming a person of influence is pivotal to being able to close prospects and ultimately, grow your business. In truth, people who are perceived as an authority in their niche, tend to get more leads, make more sales and recruit more reps, than those who aren’t. In addition, they tend to get more prospects reaching out to THEM, so that they don’t have to do any of the chasing. Clearly, that is something we all want, right?

And it’s actually not that hard, really. You just have to have the right strategies in place, to help you build online authority quickly so that becoming a person of influence is a natural by-product. I’m going to share with you 9 simple tips that will have you on your way to being a super influential leader that attracts great people to you, in droves. Sound good? Thought so…. 😉

BECOMING A PERSON OF INFLUENCE….

TIP #1: NARROW YOUR FOCUS & BUILD YOUR BRAND

I realize that you know a ton of stuff about a lot of different things, but make sure that you aren’t trying to appeal to everyone. That never works. Everyone is NOT your customer or prospect. Ideally, you need to know who it is that you want to help. The more you can dial that in..the better off you’ll be in the long run.

Ultimately, you need to craft a proper online brand. So many marketers do this part backwards. They just create a ton of content and toss it out into the marketplace, without having any bookends around it, to indicate what they’re all about. If you don’t tell your followers what you stand for, they’ll make that decision for you…and you may not like what they come up with lol!

 

About That Brand….

Creating your brand does not need to take forever either. It can be done relatively quickly but it really should be hammered out right away, so that your content has context. How do you do that?

Well..for starters, you need to answer some basic questions like… Who are you? What’s important to you? Who do you want to serve? How will you serve them? Whet makes you different or better at that, than others in the marketplace. Once you answer these questions, you’ll be able to carve out a very specific brand for yourself that will tell your perfect prospects, what you’re all about.

TIP #2: BUILD YOUR AUDIENCE

I can all but guarantee that your current Facebook friends’ list will not be sufficient to help you build a huge online business lol. In actuality, You need to be building your audience on a daily basis. I always recommend that you aim to start 5-10 new conversations per day. 

To clarify, you are not meant to try to sell anything to those people or recruit them. Your goal, should simply be to start conversations and build relationships. In fact, you should be completely unplugging from expecting any particular outcome, whatsoever. This is super important because without an audience…you’re kind of dead in the water.

TIP #3: ENGAGE YOUR AUDIENCE

What does it mean to engage your audience? Well..it means, getting them involved in what you are doing. You need to entertain them, educate them and solve problems for them. People come to social media for a diversion, NOT to be sold to, so don’t do that. Instead, be interesting and informed. 

Your perfect prospects have problems, fears, concerns and dreams. It’s your job to find out what those things are, Once you do that, you need to create quality, sharable content that addresses those needs and solves a problem. If you truly know your audience well and you create great content that fulfills their needs, they will share your stuff and pretty much, follow you to the moon!

TIP #4: DO VIDEO

Nowadays, doing video is pretty much mandatory if you want to build online authority. Becoming a person of influence is infinitely easier and faster, if you are doing it. Why? Because building rapport is so easy when your prospect can see your face, watch your body language and hear your voice. It’s almost instantaneous. Video also happens to be a truly effective way to deliver valuable content AND it gets favoured in many a social media algorithm…so win-win-win! …all the way around.

 

TIP #5: HAVE A BLOG

I don’t care if you’ve heard otherwise, all of the big-time earners and respected authorities in the online space, have a blog. Success leaves clues, my friends…so make sure you don’t miss them lol! 

You need to have a blog because it’s the only piece of online real estate that you own, operate and fully control. Social media are fickle and can change on a dime. It’s never a good idea to put the fate of your business, in the hands of others. With your blog, you control the conversation. It’s your island and all other roads should lead back to it. Your blog is your home on the internet where your prospects know where to find you.

 

This Will Help, Too

TIP #6: BE CONSISTENT

If you come out of the gate running and do a 30-day video challenge, you better be ready to keep up the pace. Now, I’m not hating on challenges..not at all …what I am saying, is that being consistent in whatever you decide to do, is paramount. So if you are showing up in people’s news feeds, everyday for 30 days, at 7pm …and then you just don’t show up for two weeks….you’ll be doing yourself a real disservice. You train your people to know when to expect you, so you have to follow through.  

Ultimately, you’ll end up having to start all over. To create and maintain momentum, it’s absolutely critical to focus on consistency. It’s even more important than quantity of content. Having said that, if you can only manage 2 Facebook lives per week, for example, than just do 2..but make sure you show up and do them, consistently. Make sense?

TIP #7: KNOW THE OTHER INFLUENCERS IN YOUR NICHE

Know who matters in your space and follow them. They can teach you a whole lot! Bring value to their world. Showcase them, credit them and share their content. If you do that, trust me…those leaders will make note of who you are! Get yourself around their worlds as much as possible and be of service to them. Doing so, serves you in the end, also.

 

TIP #8: GO TO EVENTS AND GET AROUND THOSE LEADERS

Going to events is of tremendous importance to your success on countless levels. For starters though, getting around the leaders in your niche, in person, helps you to be seen more as a peer than a follower.  Hanging out with them, hearing their wisdom, taking pictures with them and just being seen with them, goes a long way toward building out your online authority in the eyes of your prospects. Who you get around, is one of the single biggest factors to consider when becoming a person of influence. If you want to become influential, hang out with influencers! It kinda makes sense, right?

 

TIP #9: BE EVERYWHERE

This doesn’t mean that you need to create content for every social media platform. You don’t…and you shouldn’t actually, because it just muddies the waters. You’ll end up spreading yourself too thin. Instead, you simply need to be creative with repurposing your content so that you are really visible online. For example, you can take a 5 minute video and carve it up into a bunch of little segments and spread them out. You could post one on your blog and another on social media. You could even turn one into an audio podcast. Do you see what I mean? 

Becoming a person of influence requires that you are seen as an authority in your niche. There is really no better way to do that than to create memorable and sharable content that shows up everywhere:) Once you do that, consistently, you will find that more and more people are reaching out to you, wanting to know more about what you’re doing. Life gets a lot easier when you no longer need to do the chasing!
